Announcing: The Third Annual Solomon Run For Thyroid Cancer

What do you all say? This seems to have been a pretty big hit in the past. I love getting all the stories and posting the photos.

So I'm thinking: let's do it again. Here's the drill - it's simply, really. I pick a date - right now I am looking at the weekend of October 11th and 12th and all that's asked of you is that you do some sort of physical activitiy (swim, bike, run, walk, hike - I don't care).

This year, though I am hoping that perhaps we can do something special. The last few weeks I have been reading the blog of a friend of a good friend of mine from Chicago. Sadly, one of his good friends from college died on Tuesday night from colon cancer. His name was Tony and he was younger than 40 and left behind a wife and two very young children. There's an existing fund that I will find out more about, but I believe it's intended to help offset their costs and help his kids. I will post a link to the site tomorrow if by show of hands, there is enough interest. Regardless, I will be making a contribution on behalf of myself and this blog.

So -- what say ye? Let's hear it in the comments.

Now this is a great idea. A blog dedicated solely to technology reviews, maybe not, but this is a great idea!

I am excited and heartened to participate in this, the third annual Solomon Run for the Thyroid Cancer. As this will be my third time participating, I am going to need to schedule something pretty epic, something that will eclipse what I did in the inaugural running (10 miles) and what I completed last year (20 miles).

Doesn't take a mathematician to see what I need to do...30 miles. On my bike. Maybe not, maybe something a bit better.

I am psyched and ready. Let the planning begin.

I'm in. I will trot at least 5 miles (huge for this old body) and will get pledges of a minimum of $100/mile.

I am in for as much as the body can withstand that weekend (won't guesstimate what that is, hope to surprise myself).

Thanks for thinking of Tony, HS.

My foot seems to be coming back nicely, and I am up to 20 miles on Sundays.....so I will try to do a long run of at least 22 miles in honor of the Solomon Run for Thyroid Cancer that weekend...or more if I can manage it by then! Keep us posted on the details.

Of course I will do something, but it's 2 weeks out from my marathon so I am at the mercy of my coach. Too bad you're not doing it this week because it is a truly epic week of training. My feet are scared.

Oh how I love the Solomon Run for the Thyroid Cancer. Accomplished a PR last year. How convenient of you to have it Oct. 11th coach. As it turns out I have been training for a marathon taking place that day.

Cancer.. if recognized at early stage, there are chances of 100% cure. Proper medication, healthy food habits and exercise can help in a long run.
