I am reading a fantastic book: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. My brother Neil was right; it is virtually impossible to put down. I can't wait to finish it and pick up the new one that came out last month. An excellent summer read for any of you about to embark on vacation.

The family has been gone for three weeks. I have appreciated the peace and quiet and have grown somewhat used to the quiet. Pretty cool to do what I want, whenever I want, too. But that being said, I'm on record: I miss them and can't wait for them to get home. I will regret these words five minutes after they step off the plane but that's how I feel right now.

Plus, we are soon going to have a pennant race, and I need my Little Boy to enjoy it with. What about my Yankees this past weekend? They downright destroyed the Red Sox. It does not get much better than that series. We seem to have two teams moving in vastly different directions. I hasten to add though that there id a lot more baseball to be played.

Talked to my boy Todd today and he and I agreed that we are going to run an ultra next May in Long Island. I am stoked; it will be his first ultra (50k). We ran our first marathons together too: New York, back in 1996. I started running that year, and haven't stopped. Hard to believe it's 13 year already.
I decided the rest of my year while I was at it: The Quad Dipsea (28 miles and 10,000 feet of climbing), the Marin Triathlon (just to keep it real) and Rodeo Beach 50k in December. Might make a few adjustments here or there but I am thinking Western States might become the Big Objective (presuming I get in via lottery). That's a 100 miler for all you unfamiliar with that race.

Band of the week: YACHT. Their new album is terrific. Got a few others as well, but I'll save that for another post.

how many books can you read on a 50k run?gs
Have you picked the LI ultra yet? Let me know, I don't know if I'll be back to that high of a mileage yet by then, but it would give me a goal to shoot for....and a chance to meet you too.
I guess I'm committed, Howie. You've taken me public.
